The Effect Of Social Media on SOPA

We all know that recently there has been a huge uproar as two pieces of similar legislation are making their way through the House of Representatives and the Senate, SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act). By now we are all familiar with what would happen if these are passed with sites like YouTube and sharing sites (MegaUpload has already been shutdown) being hit the hardest. Protesters have been getting more and more behind the anti SOPA movement and as a result some of the world’s most popular websites shut down on January 18th including Wikipedia (English Version). Below is an infographic that demonstrates just how effective the internet and social media have been in spreading the protest and overall shifting the weight of the battle.
