The penguin update was Google’s solution in stopping those who violated the Google’s webmasters guidelines. Its purpose was to decrease the ranking of those sites which used certain techniques to gain a higher ranking from searches. Websites who were found to be using illegal means of gaining rank such as keyword stuffing, black-hat SEO, Duplicated contents and illegal linking schemes were the ones who were penalized or de-indexed. One way of not getting wiped out from search results is by not promoting your site on pages where there are links that are leading towards hacking and pornographic sites. If your website has nothing to do with hacking and pornography then you should keep away from sites that link back to such web pages. It is also important that you put place your backlinks on some of your middle pages. Do not link your backlinks on to your home page alone. If you do, search bots may find it odd and they might de-index you in return. Do not over stuff your articles with keywords to increase your keyword density, instead you can use relative key words to increase your articles visibility.

It is wise to follow this trend and start promoting on the sites as well. Linking sites is still effective yet you should be careful not to attach your back links to your home page alone.
