Oh to Wear the White Top Hat

White Hatters

There has always been a battle of the dark and light side of the Force for the justice of the universe, well the same can be said for the SEO universe. Black hat VS White hat has always been a heated topic in the SEO world and which is the best option for gaining rankings. White hat is the way that things should be done, even though there are those who try to trick the system and get a jump on everyone by doing less of the work. Sure it might work for a while, but soon enough you will get caught out, and often your clients will suffer the consequences.

White hat is, of course, to those of us familiar with the industry, used to describe ethical SEO practice. Ethical methods are those that comply with search engine guidelines or the accepted SEO code of conduct. White hat SEO refers to the usage of SEO strategies, techniques and tactics that focus on a human audience, as opposed to search engines.

Examples of White Hat:

Creating something of value is regarded as White hat, such as:

  • Guest Blogging
  • Web2.0 creation
  • Link Bait (whether it is lists, infographics, videos, etc.)

There are countless more that are only limited by your creativity but you get the idea. It takes work to get the results you want, but with that work comes lasting results.

  1. I would love to make the event as there are going to be some top SEO experts there like Cale, Ruan and Kaashif who I would all love to meet, but unfortunately location and timing is just not going to work for me… just remember, you may be wearing the white top hats but there is only one white SEO cowboy hat :)
